Judo Day at Kingsmead School

We were delighted and honoured to be asked to teach at Kingsmead School in Wiveliscombe.  The school has a brilliant reputation for being one of the best in the area and when you go there to teach you can see why.

We taught over 75 students (out of 800 in the school), the old gym was the location for our larger mat area and it has a wonderful nostalgic feel to it which reminded me of the wonderful gyms on my youth!  The staff were very welcoming and the students were engaged whilst they learnt a basic throw and hold not to mention how to land (break fall) and a whole host of Judo games to keep the learning fun!

It was a successful day and I hope to be back again someday soon!  Thank you for inviting us.

Judo BBQ Fun!

15/7/2018

Having made the conscious decision to run our first Judo BBQ we did so regardless of the amount of people to turn up.  As it happens we had around 30-40 turn up, so very good for our first BBQ!

It was a gorgeous hot day and I'm pleased to say the Nation family did a fantastic job of organising the entertainment and games of which we had plenty.   Ranging from rounders, football, egg and spoon, water races and puzzle hunts were only a few of games that were organised.  A huge thank you to the Nations for their hard work.   Also, a huge thank you to Thurlbear Primary School for the use of their school and wonderful grounds.

We would like to make this an annual event and so look forward to next year's Judo BBQ.   Many thanks to those who turned up and hope we can make it even bigger for next year!

There will be no judo tomorrow (3rd March) at Wellington Sports Centre. The Centre has been shut and I wouldn’t want any accidents trying to get in.

Please keep safe and warm.

5th Year Anniversary

18/4/2017

Picture
This week marks the 5th year anniversary of Macs School of Judo.  Initially, when we first started I only had four after-school clubs which quickly became five within a term.  My initial schools were Chilton, Puriton, Thurlbear, Castle & Minehead First.

Five years on and we have achieved/delivered:
  1. Twenty one sessions per week
  2. Teach regularly at all the colleges within the area - Bridgwater, Somerset (Taunton) & Richard Huish
  3. Taught at 14 different education establishments over the last 5 years
  4. Run over 20 Self-Defence courses to young adults
  5. Awarded runner-up for 'Performance coach of the year' for the Somerset area
  6. Succeeded in getting Judo on a school's curriculum (still running)
  7. Taken over and then tripled numbers for a community club
  8. Taken/awarded 600 successful gradings
  9. Teach over 200 students weekly compared to 50 when first started
  10. Taught whole school taster sessions to 7 schools

Has it been worth it?
Yes, definitely.   To see the smiles on children's faces, the look of realisation when an underpowered person can take control of a situation and the look of comfort on a child's face when fighting/playing a Judo game with another child they would normally never have the confidence to talk to!

A whole hearted 'Thank You' for your continued support and custom.
